What this is

An original worksheet linking a health-economic model's intended use, verification cases, calibration, and independent validation evidence to explicit findings, limitations, and accountable review. This is an editorial implementation aid informed by ISPOR-SMDM validation guidance and AdViSHE, not an official endorsed checklist or a validated scoring instrument. It separates conceptual-model plausibility, implementation verification, calibration targets, external outcomes, tolerances, uncertainty, and unresolved discrepancies. The published source tools remain authoritative for their own content.

When to use

Use during model development, updates, transfer to a new population, and preparation of an economic evidence package. Keep a stable evidence record for each important output and connect corrective actions to source data and versioned model results. Independent validation uses data not reused to calibrate the same target.

What it requires and practical domains

The analyst or appraiser should keep the question, population, outcome or model result, source documents, version, and judgments connected. Use the domains below to organize that evidence. They are a condensed implementation crosswalk; consult the linked official source for exact instrument text, permissions, and decision rules. Retain disagreements and missing information rather than converting them into favorable answers.

When NOT to use and limitations

Do not declare a model valid merely because code executes, one aggregate mean matches, an AdViSHE form is complete, or two models with shared inputs agree. A passed engineering test and a clinical validation judgment answer different questions. A completed form documents an assessment; it does not create missing study evidence, guarantee future performance, or authorize a clinical, regulatory, or reimbursement conclusion. Applicability remains a separate question from internal validity and reporting completeness.

How it maps to this catalog

Follow the related concepts to implement definitions, analysis, diagnostics, and interpretation. For this entry the companion routes are health-economic-model-validation-calibration-rwe, structural-uncertainty-economic-models-rwe, health-economic-modeling-methods-rwe, ispor-modeling. Preserve the distinction between the guidance/tool and the methods that implement it; source-backed concepts explain those methods, while this resource organizes reporting or appraisal evidence.

Evidence record

For each applicable domain record the exact evidence location, relevant study/model version, judgment and rationale, uncertainty, unresolved issue, responsible reviewer, and review date. Do not invent approvals, validation results, or completed analyses to fill a field. Store the actual operational specification separately from the assessment, so a favorable label cannot silently replace the underlying evidence.

Checklist

  • State the intended decision, target population, comparators, perspective, horizon, and outputs.
  • Attach the conceptual model, input provenance, and verification cases with expected behavior.
  • List calibration targets, fitted parameters, identifiability concerns, and reused data.
  • List independent validation targets, tolerances, observed/predicted uncertainty, and findings.
  • Record discrepancies, repairs, residual limitations, evidence locations, owners, and review dates.
